Exciting Spring Trends in Fashion

As the weather warms up, so do people’s color palettes. This spring, people are are turning up the volume in a big way with neon colors and big, bold prints. To keep this exuberance playful but age-appropriate, look for feminine cuts and silhouettes. Take note of these trends, a few straight from Fashion Week:

Neon Colors

Don’t shy away from bright pink, orange, yellow, green, and blue. You can mix and match them for added flair or pair them with a white button-up to tone it down for the office. Opt for long skirts and dresses in neon for extra pop.

Bold Prints

These range from art deco prints to futuristic ones. Floral, as always, is also a great bet, though now you’ll see more pumped-up posies. Bold prints really shine on otherwise polished, business casual attire and when paired with white clothing.

Pastels

If the above options sound too shocking or out-of-character, wearing pastel tones in spring will never go out of style. As a nod to current trends, pass on pinks and baby blues in favor of peach, muted yellow, and reddish orange.

Have you ever found yourself eagerly skipping to the comics when you open a newspaper? If so, then you know pleasurable buzz of intellectual stimulation and funny-bone-tickling enjoyment that a good comic strip can offer. Read on to learn about five of the most iconic and popular newspaper comic strips ever put into print:

Doonesbury, 1970-present

This creation by Garry Trudeau is one of the most popular cartoon strips ever to hit syndication. The strip centers on a main character named Michael Doonesbury but expands beyond that to include a varying roster of fascinating characters. Doonesbury actively engages political issues and presents a wry satire of contemporary life. It has become so popular that some papers have moved it out of the comics section to the Op/Ed section!

The Adventures of Tintin, 1929-1976

Tintin was created by a Belgian artist named Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name Herge. The strip is known for its brilliant visual appeal, thanks to Herge’s memorable and unique cartooning style, and also for its vivid characters. Tintin is also famous for having included whip-smart satire and political commentary. After originating in Belgium in 1929, the cartoon’s popularity rapidly spread around the world. It has been published in more than 50 languages and more than 200 million books of the comics have been sold to date.

Garfield, 1978-Present

No list of great comic strips would be complete without mention of this iconic cat, created by Jim Davis in the 1970’s. Garfield has become one of the most famous cartoon animals of all time, featured in animated tv shows and movies and loved all over the world. In fact, the Garfield series has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for holding the title of being the globe’s most widely syndicated cartoon strip. The series is known for focusing on everyday adventures and foibles rather than engaging with political or social issues.

Peanuts, 1950-2000

This series remains one of the most popular comic strips ever to achieve syndication. Charles Schulz’s characters have become recognized and much-loved figures in popular culture, namely the iconic Charlie Brown and his equally iconic dog, Snoopy. The Peanuts series follows the adventures of a bunch of children as they interact and try to figure out the world around them. The cartoon has been adapted into multiple successful Emmy-winning TV specials and a popular stage musical titled You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The strip is so popular that, even though Schulz passed away in 2000, many papers are still regularly running re-prints of his brilliant cartoons.
